Acupuncture can be used for your Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flex Spending Accounts. In general, you can spend tax-free from your Health Savings Account on all medical, prescription drugs, dental (including braces for your children) and vision expenses, chiropractic visits, and even acupuncture. To be a qualified medical expense, the expense has to be primarily for the prevention or alleviation of a physical or mental defect or illness.
Some Insurance Companies cover acupuncture, so check with your insurance provider to see if acupuncture is covered for your plan and their requirements. A properly coded superbill will be be provided for submission to your insurance carrier by you for reimbursement. This form is especially helpful for patients that have insurance coverage but their health practitioner is not on any insurance panels or an out-of-network provider.
